Studio Policies

PHILOSOPHY AND MISSION:

My goal as a music teacher is to nurture the artistic ability in my students and bring a love of music and learning. I aim to help each student achieve their highest goals through practice, theory, sight-reading, ear training, and memorization, and to realize the fun of learning music!

DURATION:

Lessons will typically be 30 minutes in length; other arrangements can be made.

All parents/guardians are welcome at any time to observe.

TUITION:

$100 per month, based on four lessons of $25 each. I accept cash, check, or Venmo.

Lessons are paid for on a monthly basis at the beginning of each month. As some months will have five lessons, others with holidays will have less than four, tuition may vary according to the number of lessons per month. However, all tuition is paid in advance of the lessons at the beginning of each month.

CANCELLATIONS:

Lessons canceled with twenty-four (24) hours advance notice will be rescheduled. No payment credit will be provided for missed lessons. No refund will be given for no-shows or tardiness. Please understand that the tuition you pay reserves an exclusive weekly time in the schedule for your child. Be sure to choose a lesson time that is one in which you feel confident that you will have no other conflicts.

I will also be held to this same 24-hour cancellation policy. In the unlikely event that I need to cancel a lesson, I will be responsible to give parents at least 24 hours of notice with a prompt reschedule of the lesson.

PRACTICE EXPECTATIONS:

Learning to play an instrument requires dedication and discipline on the part of the student. The musical study is a partnership between students, parents, and teachers. The lesson is a very small part of the week. It is the responsibility of the student and the parent to see that the remainder of the week is productive.

Each beginner student is required to practice a minimum of 20 minutes, six days a week. This 20-minute slot must be the assigned songs and technique exercises for that week. I encourage students to play other fun songs they have previously learned in addition to this 20-minute time. More advanced students are required to practice at least 30-60 minutes a day, six days a week. Practice time may be adjusted by the teacher based on the student’s needs and goals. If there are any questions about the amount of time each student should be practicing, please do not hesitate to ask.

Each student is required to provide a notebook for homework assignments. The student is expected to keep track of practice time daily and the material they practiced. The notebook should also be used as a practice journal. If the student has questions or troubles they should record these in their practice journal and these problems can be resolved in lessons. They should also record the things that went well during their practice time. This encourages students to reflect on their time spent practicing and make the practice more meaningful.

TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

I will provide a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere, continue to further my education through my personal pursuit of performance excellence, workshops, organizations, reading publications, and/or engaging in other activities leading to professional growth. I will guide each student according to their specific needs and help students achieve musical independence with a balanced musical program. If you have specific concerns about your student’s learning, please don’t hesitate to ask. It’s my responsibility to help your student in the best way I can, and feedback is appreciated.

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The most important goal for parents is to encourage success. Parents are welcome to attend lessons at any time. Please check your child’s notebook each week and ensure your child is attending to daily practice of the correct repertoire. To help your child establish good practicing habits, set aside a period of time each day dedicated for practice. Parents are responsible for purchasing required materials for lessons, providing an instrument in the best condition for learning, and allowing a quiet, uninterrupted place for each student’s practice.
